We are excited to announce our 2021 cohort of Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity—20 outstanding change makers who are tackling anti-Black racism and building expansive new futures in which Black people, and people of colour, are seen, valued and respected.

Our world is currently facing intersecting health, social, economic and political crises. In South Africa, we recently saw the most severe and far-reaching unrest in decades, set off by failures of political leadership, deepening economic inequality and the COVID-19 pandemic with its ripple effects on public health and wellbeing. In the U.S., communities of colour face formidable threats to their voting rights, even while the pandemic continues to send waves of uncertainty through the country. Our moment calls for leaders who are visionary and nimble, creative and courageous, compassionate, reflective and transformative.

At AFRE, we are honoured to support a network of leaders who embody these values as they respond to the exigencies of the moment. Our newest cohort joins our growing transnational community working to advance racial equity globally.

Chosen for their creativity, courage, and commitment to fairer, healthier, and more inclusive societies, these new Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity bring vital talent and vision to the work of fostering a new form of leadership rooted in imagination, compassion and transnational solidarity to advance racial equity.

Over the next 18 months, Fellows will meet, share, learn and collaborate with change makers from their home countries and abroad. They will also design and develop projects intended to make a significant contribution to the larger field of racial equity. Upon graduating from the fellowship experience, Fellows join AFRE’s Senior Fellows Community, which further accelerates and amplifies their individual and collective impact, as well as the global network of Atlantic Fellows.
